Learning Disorders and Vision

Vision can be a contributing factor to the difficulty patients have when they are diagnosed with learning disorders. 1 in 10 children have a vision problem significant enough that it impacts their learning. Difficulty with attention and concentration can be more than just a diagnosis.

The visual system is more than how clearly we can see, but how well we are able to comprehend, retain, and recall information we take in. Most symptoms that deal with ADHD and ADD overlap with visual processing dysfunction symptoms like:

  • Difficulty sitting and reading

  • Words doubling, moving, and not being clear

  • Tilting your head from side to side

  • Covering or preferring one eye over the other

  • Holding reading materials close to the face

  • Avoiding reading and other close activities
