Aging, Risk of Fall, and Vision
Falls in older patients can cause serious harm and impact the quality of life severely. Vision is a key factor for reducing falls and assessing a patient’s risk of falls. As we grow older, our visual system changes and ages with us.
This can bring many changes to how we interact with the space and world around us. When our visual system is off balance or disrupted, the most common symptoms are:
Dizziness and nausea
Stumbling, tripping, or falling
Lost confidence in space (going down stairs, walking outdoors, etc…)
Limits to daily activities
Ocular diseases like cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, and glaucoma can affect our visual system and cause loss of confidence in how we interact with the world.
How do we help?
Our brains are constantly learning and creating neuro-pathways. Learning new techniques to improve our daily lives as we get older shouldn’t feel impossible. Our customized rehabilitation program helps patients regain confidence in their space, reduce risk of falls, and teaches visual strategies for daily living! We believe that everyone is capable of empowering themselves with the knowledge and skills to improve their daily life and reduce symptoms.
